HARDY a gentle Lab mix who’s 2-3 years old. He came to the shelter after a life of neglect, his only care coming from a kind neighbor who made sure that he had food, water and loving attention. Though he was almost frozen with fear when he first arrived at the shelter, he’s made remarkable progress ever since and we’re now seeing the sweet, soft, eager-to-please young dog he really is. Since he still has a shy, sensitive side, he’ll need very kind, patient handling and training as he builds his confidence. He gets along well with other dogs, and would probably do well as a 2nd dog.
Hardy will be a wonderful, loyal companion in a calm, low-stress home.
Here’s what Hardy’s foster mom has to say about him:

Hardy is a wonderful dog, and has settled so well we can’t believe he’s only been with us 4 days.

He’s very low-key, plopping down wherever. He’s completely housetrained, and so gentle and respectful around the house that he sleeps in the office on a bed instead of having to be crated.

Hardy is constantly wagging his tail when he follows us around, or greets us, new people, or the resident dog and cats. The cats are so comfortable around him, knowing he’s just a big teddy bear. He’d really do well with another dog or cats, and likes children a lot too, but not their sports equipment – he’s still scared of new situations or noises (or lacrosse sticks and basketballs), but after submissively lying down he’ll get up and come over shyly, tail-wagging.

He has never jumped up or tried to get on the furniture, being perfectly happy lying on the floor near our feet. He enjoys walks and is pretty good on the leash unless he’s scared. He loves our backyard, even with the bad weather, although he’s not really playing with toys yet. His only bad habit so far is to sneak away with a sock or shoe in his mouth, which he’ll playfully toss in the air without damaging them.

I’d forgotten how nice it was to have a big dog (he’s a little under 60lbs) lolling around the house, and he’s just so good-natured.

Hardy is a very good-looking dog – I’d say handsome brute but brute is far too harsh for his gentle nature- with a big old head and a lovely thick soft shiny coat with marvelous white toes and happy wagging tail. He looks particularly good when he gazes at us adoringly, which he does often because he’s quite a watcher. Hardy has had a tough life without getting much attention, but he seems to just have moved on and is a pleasure to have around.

Hardy lives in Foster Care.
SEE-MORE: When you look at me real close, you’ll notice I’m a young, domestic, black and white male. You might notice something else. I’m not only good-lookin’ but, yep, that‘s right, I only have one eye. Even so, I can see more with one eye than most cats can see with two. I don’t miss a trick or a treat. Sitting in your lap is my idea of heaven. When I close my “eye” I dream of going home with you. I’m also very kissable. “If you kiss me once, and kiss me twice…you’ll be willing” to get me outa’ here. Please make my dreams come true. Wouldn’t you love to see more of me?
Note from See-More’s Foster Mom:
See-more is a great little kitty – and sooo snuggly! He made himself at home as soon as he arrived and found everything he needed. He explored all the rooms, found the food and water bowls, checked out the litter box and made friends with my cat, Jojo. Then it was time to nap. He curled up with me on the couch and was asleep in less than a minute. His favorite pastime is snuggling up where ever you are and he even gives kisses! See-more is a sweetheart with so much love to give. He’s a purr-fect furry companion. :-)

ROLAND is an adorable Beagle who’s about 3 years old. He’s an affectionate, friendly little guy who also has a rather sensitive side, so he’ll blossom with kind handling and encouragement. He really perks up when food treats are on offer, which will be a big help with confidence-building. He’s excellent with other dogs.
Roland is looking for kind family who knows and loves Beagles :-)
Here’s what one of our volunteers has to say about Roland:
Roland is a sweetheart of a beagle who just adores hot dogs. He’s still a little shy and quiet as he’s adapting to the shelter, but he’s very affectionate and he would pause every so often during our walk to put his paws up on my leg, almost as if to say, “I’m still here!”
He loved to cuddle, that is, until I pulled out the hot dogs. Then his tail wouldn’t stop wagging and he just couldn’t wait to get his treat. He’ll be great in a pretty calm and quiet home but he seemed to really enjoy the walk, so daily walks and outings with him will be a lot of fun.
AMBER is a kitten with rich tortie colors accented with splashes of white. She makes friends easily, and looks into your eyes with trust and confidence as you cuddle her. Amber will stay in your lap for as long as you like, purring with contentment. She makes feline friends easily, too. From their first introduction, Amber and her roommate became best buddies, greeting each other with gentle nuzzles and head-butts. No doubt she’ll bond quickly with her new family.
A note from Amber’s foster dad:
We have had Amber and Chad in my office for three weeks. Amber is much more reserved. She was very shy when she arrived but has gotten much better. She loves to play and will tug at strings and toys with me as long as I am willing. She also loves to wrestle with Chad and often sneaks up on him from behind. Amber follows Chad around everywhere and will meow loudly when she can’t find him. She has gotten comfortable with people but is still shy about getting picked up. She does enjoy getting attention once she is comfortable with you and will purr as her belly is scratched. Chad and Amber are best friends and I am looking for a loving home for both of them. I would hate to see these two separated.
CHAD Psst, Psst come over here and listen closely to this good looking male. You will hear me call you…honest. I am state of the art, with a real quiet engine; you can hardly hear me but you sure can feel my “motor” running if you put your hand under my chin. As a temporary member of the “lonely hearts club“ I really need someone to love me; and I will be a wonderful companion for you. Remember, there is something about soft fur that‘s comforting…especially if it has a purr in it.
A note from Chad’s foster dad:
We have had Amber and Chad in my office for three weeks. Chad is very outgoing and playful. He insists on being picked up when I arrive in the morning and starts purring the second anyone touches him. He loves to chase balls and wrestle around with toys. When playtime is over he climbs in my lap to get scratched and fall asleep. Chad is very affectionate and does well with kids and dogs. Chad and Amber are best friends and I am looking for a loving home for both of them. I would hate to see these two separated.
Chad’s ID# is A371029

A note about Chrissie from her foster mom:

Chrissie is a little bomb on legs. She climbs up the couch and explores everywhere. Both kittens like my screened in porch, and will come back to me with cobwebs on their whiskers from exploring. They race through the house and roll and tumble everywhere and my big guys perch on high places to watch the show. Both girls like to cuddle and like being combed. When I take a rest on the couch they join me, lying close. They usually like to stay close by and no matter where I am at home I can look around and find them flung out on a chair or the floor, napping or resting. My brother stopped by to visit and both kittens were playing tag under and over his feet the entire time he was sitting there. It was a hoot.
UPDATED 01/31/11!! Click here to read Sasha’s blog!
SASHA is a lovely Hound mix who’s 1 1/2 – 2 years old. She’s a bright, energetic, very social girl who responds well to kind handling and petting, and since pays attention beautifully for food treats, she’ll be a wonderful young dog to train. She likes to chase a ball, and gets along with other dogs.
Sasha is looking for an active, committed home where she’ll have lots of exercise, positive obedience training and a good routine.
Sasha is doing so well at her foster home! Here’s what her foster mom has to say:
Fostering Sasha has reminded me of the reasons I find this endeavor so rewarding — being in a home always brings out the best in our dogs!
At the shelter, I knew Sasha as a sweet, energetic, house-trained dog whose unabashed enthusiasm in walking or playing with her volunteer could sometimes be overwhelming. In my house, she still exhibits all of those wonderful qualities in a more controlled way, but I have also found her to be patient (she waits quietly to be let in from the fenced-in yard when she has been out exploring on her own) and a very congenial companion to my other pets.
She loves to play with my dog and, although she is not submissive, she allows Chloe to be in charge in their wrestling and running games. In her first week here, she has been curious about, but respectful of the cats and now sees them as just part of her larger family. She absolutely LOVES anyone who comes here; whether it is the painter or the furnace maintenance man, she makes them feel welcome and appreciated — I don’t think that she has a hostile or suspicious bone in her body.

Sasha was a little reluctant to go into the crate the first couple of nights, but now she runs in for her treat at bedtime and occasionally rests there during the day when I am working in the kitchen. She has a great desire to please and will come obediently and immediately when called.

After a good workout in the yard, where her athleticism is on full display, she enjoys napping at our feet while we read or watch TV. During these downtimes, she will often come up and politely request a hug or cuddle (you just can’t resist those soulful eyes) and then return to her slumber in preparation for our next activity. Sasha’s adaptability enables her to be a good fit with any household, but she would be an especially enjoyable buddy on the running trail, in agility training, or at the dog park.

I feel very fortunate that we are privileged to have the pleasure of her company while she awaits her lucky adopter.

a lovely Hound mix who’s 1 1/2 – 2 years old.
