Socializing Cats & Kittens

Cat Volunteers are responsible for socializing cats and kittens, cleaning cages, changing litter boxes, feeding and providing fresh water. One training session is required before you can begin. The training session will take 1 – 2 hours. Much of your training will focus on cleaning procedures, but please don’t forget about socializing our feline friends. Only well-socialized pets are adoptable. Cat volunteers should be able and willing to work at least one shift each week and enjoy playing with active kittens and cuddling with lap cats. Ideally each volunteer will socialize at least ten cats during each shift.

APS is in great need of Cat Volunteers. Orientations have limited space and priority will be given to volunteers interested in volunteering with cats. If you are able to fulfill the requirements below and are interested in volunteering with cats and kittens, please email volunteer@apsofdurham.org for this month’s orientation dates.

APS Volunteer General Requirements:

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age (We have limited opportunities for teens which require volunteering with a parent or guardian. Please ask for more information).

Volunteers must work at least 8 hours per month and commit to volunteer for at least six months.

Volunteers must also be able and willing to follow the procedures we have in place for the safety of both our animals and volunteers.

All Volunteers must attend an orientation and complete necessary training before they begin.

We do not accept volunteers who are required to volunteer for court ordered or attorney recommended community service and we are not able to validate volunteer hours for such purposes.
