Volunteers who serve on this committee are dedicated to promoting, through community education, the welfare and respect of animals in Durham County and its environs. Specific areas include: responsible pet care and safety, and solutions to pet overpopulation.
One of the primary means of public education is through presentations by Education Committee members at civic groups, churches, clubs, schools and other organizations in the community. The members also staff the APS information booth at festivals and community events. They provide literature on a wide range of topics and this information is also available at the shelter and on the website at www.apsofdurham.org
The APS Kids’ Action Team is a great way to be involved in the education committee. The enthusiasm of the kids and their parents is extremely fulfilling and makes this program unique and special in Durham. Working with the Kids’ Action Team is an exciting opportunity for any individual or group who would like to be involved directly in the greater Durham community and make a direct impact on the Shelter and the kids. You will be directly involved in planning monthly meetings for the traditional school year, helping to plan and implement a week-long summer workshop, presenting material and leading activities!
