Please Unchain Me

"For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others."
Nelson Mandela

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
Mahatma Gandhi

Dogs are very loving animals who want to be part of a pack. YOU ARE THEIR PACK.  They want nothing more than to be with you and your family. When they live chained outside, they do not have this love or family. They spend every minute of every day within a tiny, confined space. You couldn’t invent a worse punishment for a dog than keeping him permanently chained.  In the wild, wolves punish a pack member by ignoring him. A chained dog feels rejected by his family and is likely to become anxious and aggressive. They can and do take this anger out on a child or adult who wonders too close, especially if they’ve been teased and tormented by children.

Many children are seriously injured or killed by attacks from chained dogs. This is a direct result of the dog not being socialized with humans. Not only does your dog deserve better, but so do your children or the children living close to you. Living chained by the neck is not an option that any human would choose, and we need to make better choices for ‘our best friends.’ This is the life of a prisoner, not a valued pet. Humans have lots of ways to entertain ourselves: movies, video games, shopping, television. Your dog only has YOU. Your dog is depending on you to make his life a good one or a terrible one. His fate is in your hands. If you can't give your dog a happy life, should you have a dog?

A chained dog is NOT a good guard dog!
All he can do is bark. Do you really get up to investigate every time your dog barks? Barking is simply not an effective means of guarding your house. Statistics show that inside dogs provide very effective security.  A robber will think twice about breaking into your home if he hears and sees a dog on the other side of the door. A robber will not think twice about breaking into your home if there is a chained dog in the backyard barking.

Bring your pet into your home and give her the family she longs for.  If he needs training and you don’t know how, please give us a call. Fence your yard, giving your dog a step up, more freedom, and more respect.
