Happy Endings
- Kaci

 |
Ten years ago our family adopted an adult male
standard poodle from the SPCA in Charleston, SC. His name was Chance, and he
was one of the most intelligent, gentle, and elegant dogs to ever walk the
earth. Our youngest daughter, Rayna, was only 3 at the time, but he treated
her as a beloved friend from the first day they met.
Recently he became seriously ill after years of declining health. Despite
excellent care by the Animal Emergency Room in Cary, he died on New Year's
Day. The whole family was heartbroken, but especially Rayna. Naturally, we
all believed Chance deserved a tribute for the fine life he shared with us
and the joy he brought to all he met. Sponsoring a dog cage at the APS
seemed a natural fit. While we visited the shelter, Susan Teer told us about
a miniature poodle puppy who had been given up by an elderly couple --- and
what better additional tribute to Chance than to come to the aid of another
poodle in need of a loving family?
And so Kaci has come to share our lives. Somehow I think she realizes her
good home is due to the TLC she experienced at shelter from employees and
volunteers alike! |
