Happy Endings - Rhoda

Sometimes you just know.

Hi! My name is Rhoda. About a year ago things were really chaotic in my life. I had lost track of where I lived and found myself having to depend on the kindness of the sweet folks at the Durham APS for lodging and food. Eventually, this couple comes in and says they want to help me out with a new forever home. But about a month after I moved in, they decided that they weren’t ready to commit – to each other or to me, so they brought me back to the APS.
Don’t get me wrong. The APS is a really swell place to stay when things are going ruff. They feed you good food, help you with etiquette training, provide a work-out area and there are a lot of other nice pups a girl like me can get to know. They gave me a clean, warm place to sleep and there were always a lot of humans putting on shows for all of us. But let’s face it; what a good girl like me really wants is a place she can call home… a place where she can explore her inner canine and really express her hound-ness. Besides, I’ve got lots of talent, too, and I needed a place where my gifts would really be appreciated.
Then, just when I thought that I might not be able to roll over my blues, along come two guys that were just what I’d been looking for. Seems they were new in town and were looking for a gal who could show them a good time. They had just bought a new place and were fixing it up real nice. They put up a fence around the yard so I would have a safe place to play and fixed me up with not one, not two, not three – but four nice beds! All just for me. They even bought me some nice dishes and the best gourmet food. In exchange for the belly rubs and luxurious oatmeal baths, I lead them around the neighborhood, take them for walks in all of the state parks, and every evening when they come home, I sing them a nice tune to help them relax and forget their troubles.
Still, as nice as this forever home was turning out to be, there just seemed to be something missing. I sat the guys down a while back and we chewed things over. I told them that I really loved all of the things we did together; and I treasured them both with all my heart. But dog gone-it, sometimes a gal just needs to have someone more her type.
Today I got the good news. The guys have been secretly sniffing around the APS again and I hadn’t even suspected a thing. Next week they are bringing home a new fellow for me to play with; Charlie is his name. He’s just the most handsome pup a gal has ever seen. He came over for a visit the other day and we had the greatest time! We ran all over the backyard and I felt younger than I have in a long time. Charlie moves in on Sunday and I’ll be thanking my lucky milkbones for that.
Yeah, the APS may not be big on glitz and glamour, but they sure do give a pup the best second chances. So take it from Charlie and me, if you’re tails got you waggin’ for a great forever friend, stop by the Durham APS. There are lots of really sweet girls and boys like us who would love to show you a howlin’ good time.
