Happy Endings - Smaug (formerly Star adopted December 2007)

My husband and I adopted Star at the beginning of December. We were looking for the perfect kitty as a companion for our part Persian kitty Willow. She had lost her play buddy back in April of 2007 when our roommate left the door open while I was on Vacation and he got out. We never saw him again and it was truly heartbreaking. It took months for my husband to get over our loss and when we came across Star (a Persian) at the Shelter, we knew she was the kitty for us. It turns out that she has feline leukemia. After much thought we decided to take her anyway. I was afraid no one would adopt her because she was sick and I believed she was deserving of a good home.

Star had been malnourished and came into the shelter matted from head to toe. She was completely shaved and looked rather shabby. After adopting her, I took her to the vet and had her cleaned up a bit. I took my other cat and my Duplex mates (Jeff) cat to get vaccinated for feline leukemia. Willow and Bast, Jeff's cat, had been living on his side of the house for the past 6 weeks while the vaccinations take effect. I will be bringing Willow back over to my side of the house soon and I hope all is well and she doesn't get the virus. Star is on an organic food diet with vitamin and mineral supplements designed to keep feline leukemia dormant.

Star, now under the name of Smaug, Has been doing fantastic since she's come home. She loves to sleep, loves her little bit of leather string to play with, and cries if I'm slightly late in feeding her wet food to her. She is very sweet and very mellow. I hope I have many years with her. If not, I'm just glad I am giving her a wonderful home to be in.
