  • Kids’ Action Team (KAT) will meet February 19th!

The mission of the Kids’ Action Team (KAT) is to have fun learning about animals, their environment and the important role they play in our world. We will educate our future ambassadors and animal advocates about the humane care, treatment, and well being of all animals, the crisis of pet overpopulation, and the importance of spay/neuter.

Kids’ Action Team (KAT) is designed to teach children ages 9 – 12 about animal welfare and activism and prepare them to volunteer with their parents when they become teens.

KAT Members are given the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the need to respect all living creatures – both human and non-human varieties.  There are special guests (both human and animal!) as well as activities involving a variety of animal-related subjects.

In addition, participants have the opportunity to recommend, select and work on humane projects geared to their abilities.  They learn about the shelter and meet some of the animals.  Volunteerism and service are encouraged through projects designed to help the shelter.

There is no fee to join!

    Next KAT meeting:  February 19th from 1:30 – 3:00

Please join us for a special viewing of Dreamworks’ “Hotel for Dogs” followed by a discussion of Hollywood’s portrayal of animals through film.

Popcorn will be served, but we ask everyone to bring their own drink in a reusable/recyclable container.

The screening will take place at the Durham County Animal Shelter, located at 117 E. Club Blvd., Durham, NC  27704.

    Please RSVP by February 18th.

Parental supervision is not required for this activity.

For more information or to RSVP for our next KAT meeting, please call 560-0640 ext 235 or email education@apsofdurham.org .
