Thank you for signing up to volunteer at an APS community event! Please find our events training module below. Whether you are signed up to be a table volunteer, dog handler, or cat handler, you must complete this before volunteering at an outside community event.

Volunteers must be 18+ to volunteer at community events without adult supervision

Below are steps to become a volunteer for outside community events.

Event Volunteers

  1. Volunteers must be 18+ to volunteer at community events without adult supervision
  2. Complete APS Volunteer Profile. Once your application has been processed, you will receive a welcome packet with a link to the orientation presentation, FAQ about shelter volunteering, and a shelter map.
  3. Once you’ve completed our volunteer orientation, complete the Event Volunteer training module above.
  4. After completing the event volunteer training, you can sign up through the VicNet portal to find volunteer hours that are right for you. To volunteer at specific events, please reach out to the Events and Communications Manager at events@apsofdurham.org.

Dog Handler for Events

Volunteers must have 8 hours of Dog Walking experience to become a Dog Handler for events.

Cat Handler for Events

Volunteers must have 5 hours of Cat Care experience to become a Cat Handler for events.

All current and new APS Volunteers must complete this orientation before signing up to volunteer at an outside community event.
