Sonny

Personality Color: green

Green dogs are a bit more shy and sensitive, maybe a little anxious, but are sweet and they try hard. These dogs will flourish with patient adopters providing gentle guidance and confidence building. They are likely too timid for active homes with children, and would do best in a calm, quiet home getting the TLC they deserve.

Bio data

Sonny is a very affectionate and sensitive dog, who wants to be someone’s constant companion. He is surprisingly quiet for a cattle dog, rarely barking, and is very gentle in his interactions, not being nippy or mouthy. While he tolerated my elderly dog, he may be best suited in a one dog household, and cats are definitely a no go. His herding interests are very strong, and he definitely wants to pursue and corral any felines he sees. He loves having a durable toy, carrying around stuffies and his rubber bone and offering it to his person when he sees a chance. He shouldn’t be left unsupervised with toys that can be chewed up, as he has shown some signs that he will eat them. He will also carry shoes from one part of the house to another to offer you, but hasn’t chewed any, he just enjoys bringing gifts! He has shown a fondness for eating socks, so his caretaker needs to be wary of leaving around clothing or other small items he might decide seem tasty! He is also very food and treat motivated, though he seems to prefer his person being nearby when he eats. He also might benefit from a slow feeder. He tolerates bathes well, and has shown some indication they he may enjoy wading or hanging out in water.
Sonny is crate trained and house trained, but could use some additional training with basic commands. He knows ‘sit’, but sometimes his enthusiasm gets the better of him. However, he’s very smart and very eager to please. Though he wants to be able to go out, play fetch and exercise his cattle dog nature, he also loves curling up on the sofa or in bed beside his person, and will sometimes gently put a paw on you to ask for some extra attention. While this older gentleman isn’t as full throttle as some young pups, he has plenty of energy and a very active brain. He’d love to be able to go for a romp in a field, and then come home and spend the day curled up beside you (or following you around the house). He’d make a great farm dog, or pet for someone with a slightly larger piece of property.
