Ziggy

Personality Color: orange

Orange dogs are likely young, energetic, and enthusiastic with lots of love to give! They will thrive with regular exercise, and some training classes would be a good idea. These dogs would be a great companion for an active person who enjoys running or hiking in the park. Fenced-in yard a plus!

Bio data

Hiiii, check out my wiggles! I’m a friendly guy who loves affection. I’m always up for scritches or some manly pats on the butt. If I get too stressed, I can’t eat very much. But, I do really like to play with a ball. I’ll benefit from calming exercises, confidence building, basic training, and lots of snuggle time. Let’s go have fun!

Kids: 10+, stiff and avoidant with novel objects, tries to control fast movements

Dogs: Forward; slow intros with gentle dogs

Ziggy recently spent the weekend with a volunteer. His host shared the following:

Ziggy was an absolute love, a joy to spend time with. He’s silly, sweet, and super snuggly. He loves to sleep under blankets; he hopes you don’t mind that he snores. Ziggy appears to be fully housetrained (no accidents in the home during his stay). He already knows “sit”, and “shake” with both paws. He is working on learning his new shelter name and on coming when called.

Ziggy was neutral meeting the neighbor’s dog through the fence. He stayed calm seeing other dogs at Petco. He warmed up quickly to strangers and allowed petting. He did see a few people that he was concerned and grumbled about–he’ll benefit from slow intros and consent checks with new people to make sure that he’s comfortable. He is STRONG and can get excited; use caution around small kids and others who could be knocked over by his wiggles. He’ll also benefit from loose leash training, especially around small animals, which he likes to chase. For this reason he’ll likely do best in a home without cats.

In sum, Ziggy is a 15/10 Very Good Boy with big ears and a bigger heart. He’ll thrive with someone who gives him a couple of walks per day, enjoys a Velcro dog, has time to put into training, and is strong enough to handle him on leash while he’s learning. Meet Ziggy today!
